Synergy is when the merging of two or more media companies work together to create a greater product than outcome would have been if they had worked individually. (E.g. Warner Brothers and LEGO)
Media synergy is the way in which different elements of a media conglomerate work together to promote linked products across different media. It happens when benefitting both companies. For example, the video game Rocket League - previously and solely owned by 'Psyonix', then merged with Epic Games to both improve Rocket League and produce more video games. This interaction between these media companies created a beneficial outcome than if Psyonix continued on their own - it was a great step in their video game industry and helped gain the small video games' attention to the public. A perfect example of a synergy, as both companies have benefitted by merging and gaining popularity via improving and producing new media products.
Passive Audience - Audiences that accept the messages encoded in a media text without challenge and are therefore more likely to be directly affected by the messages.
Active Audience - Audiences that engages, interprets and responds to a media text in different ways and is capable of challenging the ideas encoded in it.
PSB - Public service broadcasting, means that programmes made for the public. There is no advertisements. Public service broadcasters generally transmit programming that aims to improve society by informing viewers. Public service broadcasters also strive to entertain their viewers.
BBFC - British Board of Film Classification – the regulate films for UK audiences - award age certificates
Synergy – when two of more companies work together to produce a product that they couldn’t have achieved separately
Globalisation – when a media text is available within different countries around the world
Product diversification – when a media product expands and alters itself so that it is available across multiple platforms such as a video game, magazine, music platform, publication
This is very brief!
